Ann-Marie has been visiting the Hebridean islands of Mull and Iona for many years and now spends much of her time living on the Isle of Mull where she is surrounded by sea and the elements. She is fascinated by the colours and light found on the islands. Her painterly response is emotional, capturing the atmosphere and spirit of the place, which is felt rather than reproduced.
Ann-Marie works with oil and acrylic paints, and often mixed media. She uses palette knives, rags and hands, rather than brushes, to make a variety of marks. Impasto (thick, raised paint) is important in her work and she often incorporates sand and other textural materials.
